Other day Ma N3 posted this poem “Ngar” and I’ve been thinking ever since. First I thought of writing a comment on her page and ask about it. But then what the hell, I haven’t post on my site for a while and wanna share the poem with my friends also so I decided to post the poem and my thoughts here.

ငါ့ မွာလည္း ငါ ၊ သူ ့မွာ ငါႏွင့္
ငါ့ ငါ သူ ့ငါ ၊ ေတြ ့ၾကခါ၀ယ္
ငါ ႏွင့္ ငါ ခ်င္း ၊ ငါ စစ္ခင္းလ်က္
ပူျပင္းလွ်ံရဲ ငါ ေပါက္ကြဲ၏ ။

ငါ ဒုကၡေပး ၊ ငါ မေအး၍

It’s pretty good poem but I’m confused over the last two stanza.
What I understand is:

“Nga” = Me
“Ngar” = Ego or noun in general

Most probably “Ngar” is your ego but for my own easy translation purpose, lets’ take it as someone, say “X”.
So….when I translate, (or this is how I understand)

The 1st line says:

Will X gonna win over ME? (or) Will your Ego win over You?

The 2nd line again says:

Would ME gonna be beaten by X? (or) Will You get beaten by your own Ego?

In both way, you loses. ie. ME loses, and both lines have the same meaning.

Shouldn’t be like

Will X gonna win over ME (Will your Ego win over You?) and
Will ME gonna win over X? (Will You be able to beat your own Ego?)

Ok now, how to write that in Burmese? Ngar Muu Nga Ko Aung Myi Law…
“Muu” is something like “Ka” rite? hmmm….

I think I understand what this poem is trying to say. I’m just being an annoyingly picky person sometimes. May be my whole understanding of the poem is wrong. Sometimes meaning of the poems are so hard to figure out but I still enjoy reading those kinds and try to understand their hidden meaning.

Translation of the poem is something like this. Actually I have no idea how to translate it properly. It’s not direct translation; I just made up some parts cos’ some are weird to translate.

Ngar (Self or Ego)

I have my Ego and you have yours,
When our Egos meet,
Both turn into a fight,
With volcanic destruction, they clashes.

Ego being the problem,
Think of a chance/way to resolve it,
Search for the goods, throw away the bads,
Though you try to discard it,
It will act as a sleeping cobra,
A note from a flute could arouse,
And turn him into a deadly weapon.

Oh – Ego my buddy, shall we,
Test our strength against will,
May the best one win,
Will you win over me?
Will I be defeated by you?

GV or rather RV is accepting proposals from local communities.

Rising Voices, the outreach arm of Global Voices, is now accepting project proposals for the first round of microgrant funding of up to $5,000 for new media outreach projects. Ideal applicants will present innovative and detailed proposals to teach citizen media techniques to communities that are poorly positioned to discover and take advantage of tools like blogging, video-blogging, and podcasting on their own.

Examples of potential projects include:

• Purchasing an affordable digital video camera and teaching a group of rural students how to produce an ongoing video-blog documentary about the lives of their grandparents.
• Organizing a regular workshop on blogging and photography at a local orphanage. Portions of the budget could be used on cheap digital cameras and internet cafe costs so that participants could describe their local neighborhoods to a global audience with text and photos.
• Working with a local NGO or social entrepreneur so that their challenges, successes, and stories are told to a global audience.
• Translating our new media curriculum to an indigenous language, like Quechua or Wolof, that is currently not represented in the blogosphere or “podosphere.” Then use the learning modules to encourage bloggers to write in those languages.

Some ideal projects I have in mind are something like featuring activities of Mae Sout Medical center or Orphanage centers or Buddhist-Temple-Schools. Even something like featuring blogging seminars done by Service+ (so I heard) or whatever interesting projects they doing to promote web awareness to local communities and vice versa. So I hope such organizations/individuals would try to apply for this grant and make a good use of it. I wish some groups from Fiji apply too, I don’t see much of internet activities from Fiji except for the growth of political blogs and social network users such as Hi5 and Friendster.

Here is one good site I came across (via barnyar, I think). It’s a very neat blog (wp platform), well organized categories for authors, download links using Megaupload, very clean no ad (yet) and might become users generated content site like any other ebooks share sites in the future as they accept contribution from users. I’m very much impressed with the site as I find many good books I like. I found two books from my favorite author Juu. Gonna download them soon. One of the advantages for providing a site like that in blog format is that you can roll the feed and keep yourself updated regularly than the normal static sites. So good work whoever the owners are.

Just one small thing I like to see/suggest is to put the book covers in each post and if possible a brief intro/description of the book. But I know it could be too much hussel for the site owner as he got to manage lots of books and some books might not have covers. But just a thought anyways as it will make it much prettier and informative for each post. The site is very new so I bet they might be doing lots of improvments later on. (like replacing default wp blogroll list with related myanmar ebook site links etc)

It’s a good thing they have “Help” page explaining how to use Megaupload and also provided the login info. Very thoughtful indeed. Note: Once you click on the category link, it will direct you to a page with all entries for that particular category/author. Download links are disabled there and you have to click post title to get to proper page with enabled download link. So, don’t think that the downloads are unavailable, just click around and you’re set to go. Visit the site: Myanmar Ebooks

Oh check out the “Credits” page write up. I find it quite amusing especially the last sentence. Becareful, you might twist and tangle your tongue as I did. Let me count how many “mm-ebooks” word they used in that one paragraph……..they need one more “mm-ebook” word to have 10 in total so how about adding “Thank you, mm-ebook admin” in the end as the closing paragraph. hehe that should make it total of 10.

Check out the parent site ie. www.mmblogs.net too. I think they’re using WordPress MU and providing free blog service on my favorite wp platform which is very cool indeed. They got a good write up on what their site is all about and some rules and regulations. The only thing I don’t see that they should have is the network user links. Should provide the links of all those blogs that using their service. It’ll be good to see how people make use of their service don’t ya think so?
