Yesterday, we received this note from ANZ regarding the Credit card usage overseas. Correct me if I understood it wrongly, but does that mean we cannot use credit card for anything except travel related like buying flight ticket? So how can we pay for other online purchases like:

online shopping (general, hosting, domain, etc),

online membership/subscriptions fees (World of Warcraft subscriptions, etc),

online visa application fees (not necessarily a travel visa),

online education fees (MS Certs/Distance education)

and many other expenses

And why do we have to send the bank statements and stuffs – “for our confirmation that card has been used in line with the new guidelines”. What a bother!

I don’t understand what’s going on with Fiji economy and foreign exchange policies. I don’t study economics, I don’t care about it; what I don’t care, I don’t want to know. But what I do know is that I want to use my own money in any way I like and I want no restrictions placed upon it.

The main reason I got myself a Credit card was to use it overseas related expenses and online payments. I don’t need a Credit card for any of the local transactions. I’m really unhappy about this new rules; first they rob us of 20% of our wealth (via devaluation) then they want to say I can’t buy stuffs with my own money. Ridiculous!

Dear Customer

Use of Personal and Business Credit Cards Overseas

We advise that the Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) has recently reviewed its exchange control guidelines in respect to the operations of Credit Cards when used overseas and has made the following changes with immediate effect:

The Credit cards are to be used only for travel related expenditures which include reasonable expense for shopping etc, and to pay for small amounts of miscellaneous imports;

A cash drawing/cash advance limit while overseas has been set at FJD1,500 per month;

Credit card payments via Internet or Phone banking are limited to only $5,000 per month. You are required to forward a copy of the Bank statement to Customer Relations, 7th Floor, ANZ House for our confirmation that card has been used in line with the new guidelines;

Business Credit Cards – are exempted from restriction on usage, however, RBF’s prior approval is required for any payment in excess of $5,000 for a purpose other than ‘travel’ related;

The monthly repayment limit delegated to commercial banks remains at $5,000 per month for overseas transactions for personal credit cards and a new limit has been set at $20,000 per card holder for Business Credit cards. Any payment above these limits must be referred to RBF for approval. To this end, customers are required to submit the original bank statement fo the cards account to RBF and seek their approval before payment can be effected by the commercial bank. Please note you would have to get this approval as RBF may seek clarification on overseas transactions.

In the event you breach any of these new guidelines, you would be reported to RBF. This could possibly lead to the cancellation of your credit card facility. Please call Contact Centre on phone 132411 should you require any clarification in respect to these advices.

Yours faithfully
Haroon Ali
Head of Retail Banking

My brother, Aung a.k.a Zatlite, has started blogging yesterday after a few years of persuasion from me. He started off with twittering ,which was also the result of my persistent persuasion, and has been a good regular twitterer to date. Yesterday, he suddenly made himself a blog and now he’s crazy about it.

His very first blog, “The private life of a badminton maniac“, talks about all his passion on racquet sports, especially badminton and racquet breaking hobbies. I’ve posted some of his actions on the past Badminton games in this post and; photos and videos of his squash tournament here.

I’m sure he’s no stranger to mayvelous’s regular followers as he is mentioned many times in my posts. He has also written a few posts on mayvelous: KISS My Arse!, bugs and fixes posts.

You can see some of his ramblings in these posts: A Corn Seed Story , Bulldozer, April Fools, Sister Hiring Hitman, and more under “Family“, “Brothers and Sisters“, “Conversation” categories.

So, Zatlite, the great “Genius Sama” (that’s what he calls himself), has started blogging about his antics on The private life of a badminton maniac“.

Did I mentioned I purchased 2 years DreamHost plan? I think I’ve twitted about it. I got some good promo code and got a good deal of $42.96 for 2yrs. That great deal is already passed but if you happen to purchase a year plan, you can try this code 117M, that should chop down a few bucks.

I’ve been wanting to switch over DreamHost for ages but due to my limited knowledge on LAMP platform and DreamHost price is a bit expensive compare to my .net host, I couldn’t dare to test it out. But with this good promotion deal, I can afford to play around on DreamHost for 2years.

I want to keep my current DotNetPark windows hosting too in case if I happen to host .net site but I don’t plan to publish a new site anytime soon; I only have this mayvelous blog and 1 hosting should be sufficient enough.

Anyhow, now mayvelous.com is sitting on DreamHost and I’ve placed quite a lot of plugins which I couldn’t with previous Windows host. Mayvlous is now with,

Friendly URL

Related Post Links under each post

Photo Gallery

Post Rating stars

Affiliate Logos & Links at the side bar

A few widget ads programs which can only seen by certain countries

and many new plugins I’m still playing. I want to change my theme too but I still love the current one and too lazy to search for good themes so I’ll leave it as it is for now. Ok, Just drop by to say hello and let you know the updates…right, that’s about it.

Of course, not everyone has a webcam, but even if you don’t, you can still have voice conversations alongside your email and regular chat.

Watch the demo video and read detail here.

Just spreading this wonderful opportunity to all those travel bloggers who like to visit Indonesia and participate in this event. Early this year, I went to Bali for similar event; I had a great time there, met lots of people and learn new things. I wish I could go again, but I doubt it since I’m not really a travel blogger. Anyhow…the following is an abstract from the GV email I got, read on for detail info as well:

Indonesian Bloggers are having the 2nd national gathering next month on the November 22nd, last year we managed to get 500 bloggers from all over Indonesia to come.

This year hopefully we can get up to 1000 bloggers to attend the whole day event. The theme for this year is blogging for society.

Leading to that, as a part of the program to promote Indonesia tourism, supported by Indonesian Ministry of Cultural and Tourism, we would like to invite several international bloggers from any country to come and have a trip to three cities (Bali, Jogjakarta, Jakarta) in Indonesia leading to the event.

We are looking for bloggers (travel bloggers) that can post their experience, photos, people they meet, basically blogging about Indonesia and Indonesian people, and join the event.

The period for this trip is between Nov 17 – Nov 22 2009 and this is the itinerary:

Denpasar, Bali (Mon, Nov 17 – Tue, Nov 18)

Jogjakarta (Wed, Nov 19 – Thu, Nov 20)

Jakarta (Fri, Nov 21 – Sat, Nov 22)

All expense will be covered, including flight ticket from your country to Indonesia and back.

And read more about the event in detail below. Their site is fully in Indonesian language but this is from email attachment and it’s in English, so dumping it directly here.

Pesta Blogger 2008: The blogging trip

We’re looking for travel bloggers to come to Indonesia!

ABOUT PESTA BLOGGER
On October 27th, 2007, history was created when Indonesia had its first national bloggers gathering. PESTA BLOGGER 2007 attracted the participation of more than 500 prominent bloggers and blogger’s communities from throughout Indonesia. It also received the full backing of the Minister of Communications and Informatics, Muhammad Nuh, as well as securing reams of coverage in the traditional media.

The gathering, with a theme of ‘Suara Baru Indonesia’ and held at Blitz Megaplex, Grand Indonesia, served as a social get-together for bloggers to meet each other face-to-face and to share common interests. In his opening speech, Indonesian Minister of Communications declared October 27th as National Bloggers Day–to commemorate the 1st national scale bloggers’ gathering in Indonesia.

We have received very positive remarks and feedback of the event; that not only Pesta Blogger 2007 became the 1st get-together for bloggers nationally, but the event also had successfully helped many of Indonesia’s prominent bloggers to share their views and discuss how they can do something positive for the society.

In May, we posted an announcement in our official blog (pestablogger.com) that this year’s Pesta Blogger will be on this November 22, and have received hundreds of enthusiastic comments from bloggers across Indonesia, indicating that this event has become an annual celebration they’ve been waiting for. In 2008, Pesta Blogger will carry the theme “Blogging for Society”, whereby bloggers will demonstrate what positive contributions the blogosphere can make toward society and the nation in general.

THE BLOGGING TRIP: Are you a travel blogger?
Pesta Blogger 2008 will begin with a “Road to Pesta Blogger 2008” event on Nov 17, leading up to Nov 22, 2008. During this event, with the full support of Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and in accordance with the program Visit Indonesia Year 2008, we’re planning to invite foreign travel bloggers (or other bloggers who habitually write about travel/tourism) from 5 countries to join a blogging trip— whereby these foreign bloggers will be exposed to Indonesian tourism potential, hosted by local bloggers’ community.

The blogging trip schedule is as follows:
1.Denpasar, Bali (Mon, Nov 17 – Tue, Nov 18)
2.Jogjakarta (Wed, Nov 19 – Thu, Nov 20)
3.Jakarta (Fri, Nov 21 – Sat, Nov 22)

All expenses for this trip (transportation, accomodation, F&B, etc.) will be covered by Pesta Blogger 2008 and The Ministry of Culture and Tourism. If you are a travel blogger (or a blogger who habitually writes about travel/tourism) from Singapore, Malaysia, China/HongKong, Australia, and USA and is interested to participate in this program, all you need to do is to send us an email containing your:

full name (as written on your passport),

country of origin,

gender,

age,

phone number,

email address,

blog URL, and

a short paragraph on why you’d like to participate in this blogging trip.

Don’t forget to put PB08-BLOGGING TRIP as the subject of your email.

We will wait for your email until October 22, 2008, and we’ll announce the 5 selected participants on October 24, 2008 through pestablogger.com. Throughout the trip, you’ll be expected to blog about Indonesia as a travel destination and the cultural heritage of the country as well as the interaction you’ll be having with local bloggers’ communities in Denpasar, Jogjakarta, and Jakarta. The trip will end up with the Pesta Blogger event in Jakarta, on Saturday, Nov 22, 2008.

For further information please contact:

Well, great news isn’t it? Indonesia is a great country with excellent hospitality, I’m sure you’ll make the best of this event and enjoy the stay.

Just going through my feeds and this one interests me. There is an announcement of the next version of Visual Studio and .Net Framework: Visual Studio 2010 and .Net Framework 4.0.

Visual Studio 2010 and the .NET Framework 4.0 mark the next generation of developer tools from Microsoft. Designed to address the latest needs of developers, Visual Studio and the .NET Framework deliver key innovations in the following pillars:

Democratizing Application Lifecycle Management
Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) crosses many roles within an organization and traditionally not every one of the roles has been an equal player in the process. Visual Studio Team System 2010 continues to build the platform for functional equality and shared commitment across an organization’s ALM process.

What I would like to request from you is quite quite quite easy: if you have a youtube channel of your own, subscribe to our GVVideo YouTube channel, and let’s share the visits and content. If you don’t have a YouTube account, please just stop by and watch some videos and comment online. Also, if you know someone from your region who is creating awesome citizen media content in video, please contact me, or better yet, tell them to subscribe or send a video response to my vlog posts and I´ll be watching their channels for great content. If you stop by and have any ideas of how to make the channel a better and more inviting place, how to showcase content better, etc, please feel free to write me, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
