A team of young software engineers (most of them students, I think) have came out with Burglish Converter project which is currently in prototype 2.2 and public testing stage.

This is an on-going research activity to develop a computer system that can translate Burglish(Burmese- English) words into pure Burmese words in Burmese font. The system is currently being developed by a few Burmese software engineers who are motivated in Language Technology.

A few years back, my brother and I thought of doing the same project but as lazy arses as we are, we couldn’t motivate enough to start at all and finally forgotten about it.

We are glad that someone actually doing this and though the project is very basic with lots of limitations, I’m proud to see something happening after all.

I don’t know much of actual back-end processes they doing but seems like they are collectiong Buglish words inputs, retype them in Burmese and log them back to the database. Not an efficient way but it does work.
There is no standard in Buglish writing yet, but I’m sure we will have some standards soon as rite now I can see a few word structures like putting “Wai Sar Nha Lone Pout(:)”, eg. for normal word “kar” will create no “:” but once you type “karr”, it will add (:). Same thing for other words like “Min” – “Minn” etc.

You can tell there is going to be lots of spelling errors while converting specific Buglish word to Burmese word cos’ there are lots of different ways we use one character/word. Nevertheless it’s quite fun typing up and checking the conversion.
Oh yah, it does spell my name correctly so I LIKE it!!

So here I am just spreading the word so that you can go test it out and in turn help those developers collect the inputs.

I posted about mapsurface “Press Alt X” a while back and been using and loving it. It’s very light and efficient to analyze a quick track down of your stats. Today I noticed that they’ve upgraded the interface and added search string feature.

New features 9 June 2006
MapSurfure has been updated. We have added a search phases report so that you can see how people find your content. The map tool now records clicks on buttons so that you can also see howusers navigate away from a page containing forms.

Also there is roll over effect with color and graphics to the left hand side controls.Cute. Press Alt X and check it for yourself. They’re still on test drive and you can request an invite at their site: mapsurface.

A friend of mine said, Windows Vista is really cool and recommanded me to try out. I don’t know what exactly it’s cool about. My ok with WinXP and current interest is on Win2003 Server since I’m doing project on that.
Anyway whoever interested in trying out WinVista, it’s out for download.

Today, Microsoft will make Windows Vista Beta 2 available to the masses for downloading in three different languages. If you can’t download you don’t have to worry, there will be also an option to order it on DVD media later my informant told me. The released build number will be 5384.4, same as the technical beta. Today is a big step forward to let the end-user have a look at Microsoft’s upcoming operating system and of course to let them tryout all new features.

Incase of live and death emergency such this, Buried alive, who would you save?

TWO children and their mother were buried alive after a landslide tore through part of their home at Vunivau outside Labasa at the weekend.

Their 70-year-old grandmother, who survived after being thrown into a nearby drain by the force of the disaster was still in shock yesterday.

I was just wondering…where this man was sleeping when the event happened…the wife close by and go for the mother.
Hmmm…Impressive!

Don’t take me wrong, I do pity this poor man on his losts. Just that I’m trying to think logically to who he should go for.

How is the level of affection and love between the mother, the wife and to the kids?
I might not be qualify to judge on this as I’ve never been married or have kids but what would I/you do in case of this.

I don’t know which one is stronger, the love for your mother or the love for your partner or the love for your own child?
Ofcos if my husband is an arse-hole then I would definitely ignore him and go for my mother or my kids.
But then on the choice of the mother and the kids, I would go for my kids…I guess that’s what all mother/parents would do. Ok lets not talk from a gal point of view. From a girl point of view, no girl would try to save a husband, should be the other way round rite?

Lets try from the guy(your) point of view, who would he go for? Why he couldn’t help the wife who was sleeping next to him and why not kids? They are lighter to carry…why the mother?
Gosh I sounded like I hate my mother. You know what i’m trying to say rite?

My way of looking at it is:
The youngers have lots of future ahead so the youngers should get more survival chance than the 70 year old elder. and what a 70-year-old do much for…say next 10 to 20 years?

Am I right in saying what I said or what would you have done? Hmmm so what’s your opinion on this?
Or do we just blame on the rotten fate?
