Virus Alert

Bio HazardWarning!
The virus HF-ISC, a highly contagious mutation of the common HFC virus is spreading around. We wish for everyone to keep calm and take the vaccine TG-YGTGDC as a preventative measure.

For those already infected by the virus, the recommended treatment is to take leave from work and be treated with adequate doses of TLC by their loved ones until cured.

    Installing Asian Languages

I’m working with Japanese website these days and having a hard time viewing Japanese characters.

For some reason, I can view Japanese character sets on my firefox and not on my IE.
Probably I might have installed asian language pack on my Firefox or not sure…
Anyway I was having a difficulty viewing characters in my MS Word as I can’t see a thing.
I was doing site updates only by copying blank page selection and paste it on my html page then view it on my Firefox which is not at all efficient.

Then Zatlite came in and did something as 1,2,3 to my setup and there it is, I now can view all characters in MS word as well as in dreamweaver.
Hmm how come I didn’t know about it?
Sayar khaw par tal A Ba yal.

Here are the steps to enable asian language pack on your system.

    # Select Control Panel > Regional and Language Options
    # Choose “Language” tab > Check “Install files for East Asian languages”
    # Restart your computer and done.

    Open link in new window

Do you know that target=”_blank” (Open page in new window) is not a valid xhtml tag? Well you probaby do but I didn’t till now.

I kinda knew it’s invalid but I thought it’s valid for Xhtml transitional and version 1.0 only but not for strict…something like that I thought. Well I was absolutely wrong. It’s a html tag and totally invalid for xhtml whether your xhtml is transitional or strict or frame. Just not gonna work(it works) validate right.

So I asked one of my colleagues and he pointed me to some script he used. I looked at it, thought about it and knew it’s opening new window or pop up window (Douh!). But I’m confused which tag exactly is the replacement of target=”_blank” tag. I got sinking feeling that I might be looking at the very solution right under my nose and don’t know about it. It’s kinda embarressing to ask him again for straight answer so what to do…google is my best friend. Always to google before asking stupid questions. So I googled and there is it, so simple and so stupid I was. hehe.
So the answer is to replace it with rel=”external”

Check these articles for more short explanation and a nice script:
    target=”_blank” XHTML 1.0 Strict Conversion
    New-Window Links in a Standards-Compliant World

This is probably a usless post but who cares!
Anyway I’m compiling a longer, useful post and this one is posted as a breaking news.

  • To Talk or Not to Talk at Work

I was thinking, I should count the words I spoke at work each day.
Cos’ I got nothing much to talk about and this article, Top 6 Topics to Avoid Discussing at Work, makes me even more muter.

There are some conversations that don’t belong in the workplace.

You should also avoid lengthy discussions about controversial subjects. Staying away from discussing the following topics will make your work life a lot easier.

    1. Religion
    2. Politics
    3. Your Sex Life
    4. Problems With Your Spouse, Your Children, or Your Parents
    5. Your Career Aspirations
    6. Your Health Problems

And let me add a few more…
Don’t talk about yourself/family (too personal),
Don’t talk about others/friends (too nosy, gossipy)
Don’t talk about your work mates (Nothing interesting about them)
Don’t talk about Food (make you lose concentration in work)
Don’t talk about work (Boring, nobody wanna hear it!)

So…the best is just sit there and be mute. Nice huh?
